Cougar Annie's Garden & Voices from the Sound
Cougar Annie's Garden by Margaret Horsfield

Surrounded by tall trees and taller tales, Cougar Annie's Garden is a legend on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

In 1915, the tough, wily pioneer known as Cougar Annie arrived on the coast to homestead at the isolated location known as Boat Basin. For nearly seventy years she remained, rarely leaving the five acre garden she cleared in the rainforest. A heart-lifting story of stubborn achievement, and of an enduring love of the land, this book won the Roderick Haig-Brown Prize for best book about British Columbia in 2000, and it continues to be widely acclaimed.

260 pages, trade paperback, with maps, illustrations, over 100 colour photographs.

Voices from the Sound by Margaret Horsfield

Filled with personal stories and a vivid sense of time and place, Voices from the Sound brings alive the history of the west coast of Vancouver Island. Nominated for the Roderick Haig Brown Book Prize in 2009, this book relates the early 20th century history of this coast through a lively exploration of the letters and diaries of people who lived there.

This is Margaret Horsfield's second book about this area. Previously, in the award-winning Cougar Annie's Garden, she told the story of a remote bush garden in the northern reaches of Clayoquot Sound.

384 pages, hardcover, fully indexed, contains maps, illustrations and over 100 previously unpublished photographs
